Dr. Stewart’s office utilizes many state of the art lasers to perform procedures relating to skin resurfacing, skin tightening, wrinkle reduction, pigmentation problems, and much more. Many of the lasers described below, were first utilized in the Denver area in Dr. Stewart’s office. She always endeavors to stay on the cutting edge of the newest technological advances, and actually teaches many of the techniques utilized in her office to local university students and doctors in the area. Please review the list of laser procedures offered below. Feel free to call our office with any questions.
CO2 Lasers
Adrienne E. Stewart, M.D. uses state of the art fractional CO2 lasers to perform skin resurfacing procedures. CO2 lasers have long been the gold standard for facial resurfacing. The results have been amazing, but unfortunately the process has been roundly criticized by patients who routinely say they are happy with the results but would not go through the process again.
The reason: theCO2 process in the past was very painful and involved extensive downtime for recovery. Due to this, Dr. Stewart never offered the old style CO2 resurfacing. However, all this has changed with the advent of Fractional CO2 Lasers. This technology delivers a pattern of microscopic columns of laser exposure which leave nearly 75% percentage of the skin completely undamaged.
With the fractional CO2 laser technique, the patient experiences some redness of the skin. Minor healing time is required, which is usually around five to seven days. The patient is usually back to normal life within a week’s time. Pain is experienced during the treatment, but afterward the patient’s pain feels similar to sunburn for a few hours.
Matrix Fractional CO2
Dr. Stewart uses the Matrix Fractional CO2 treatment for wrinkle reduction, overall tissue tightening, and textural improvement to enhance the skin’s strength and elasticity. With this treatment the skin gets a smoother, tighter texture and pigmentation begins to diminish. In the Matrix Fractional CO2 process, each pulse delivers a column of energy that can reach the skin’s dermal layer, stimulating a natural renewal process of the body’s own collagen. The technique is ideal for treating wrinkles, skin texture irregularities, pigmented lesions, fine lines, acne scars, and sun damage. More treatment may be required to achieve the desired end results.
Fraxel®

Dr. Stewart’s office in Colorado was the first to offer this revolutionary procedure to reverse the signs of aging. Dr. Stewart has taught the Fraxel® technique to other doctors in Denver and across the United States. This treatment involves very little downtime and is able to treat thousands of microscopic areas of skin using precise pinpoint laser beams. These beams penetrate underneath the skin’s surface and eliminate old, damaged skin cells.
Fraxel® treatment stimulates the body’s own natural healing process which replaces damaged skin with fresh, glowing, healthy skin. Fraxel® reduces brown spots, smoothes wrinkles and acne scars, evens out skin tone, and improves elasticity. In an FDA-cleared study of Fraxel® treatment of skin around the eyes, patients, investigators, and a review panel of prominent expert dermatologists, all reported significant improvements in skin texture, wrinkles and skin discolorations such as age spots and sunspots.
Because a fraction of the skin is being treated at one time, four to six treatments are usually required. The beauty of the Reliant Fraxel® System is that non-facial areas can be safely treated; and because it is an extremely safe procedure, darker skin types may also be treated. Fraxel ® was designed for the Doctor to have complete control in determining how aggressively to approach your personal treatment based on your unique skin requirements.
UltraLight-Q Tattoo Removal
Dr. Stewart makes use of the advanced UltraLight-Q system for tattoo removal. This system uses light-based wavelengths that are specifically attracted to tattoo ink. The laser creates a collimated energy beam of light. The light passes through the outer skin layers targeting only the embedded ink. Energy from the laser is rapidly absorbed by the ink, causing the pigment to fracture into microscopic particles. The body’s immune system cleans the particles from the skin, causing the tattoo to fade and eventually disappear. The UltraLight-Q has a nanosecond pulse width, making it possible to safely achieve predictable and reliable results.
The patient may need several treatments to remove the tattoo completely. The number of treatments required in a particular case depends on various factors such as the age of the tattoo, the depth and type of the ink in the skin, and whether the tattoo was created by a professional or an amateur. A professional tattoo may take six to ten treatments to remove, and an amateur tattoo may take four to six treatments. The treatment sessions will be spaced six to eight weeks apart, allowing the body’s immune system to naturally remove the pigment fragments.
GentleWaves LED Photomodulation™
Dr. Stewart’s office is equipped with state of the art GentleWaves LED Photomodulation™ technology. This technology was originally developed at NASA for wound healing in space. This technique uses natural, variable wavelengths of light to gently stimulate or inhibit cellular activity to reduce the signs of aging. LEDs offer a totally natural, non-ablative method for skin rejuvenation. The light from the LEDs interacts with cells and stimulates them to produce new collagen and elastin. The GentleWaves system is coded in such a way that it stimulates specific cell changes. By manipulating the codes, different treatments can be designed for specific applications.
It improves the appearance of aging and sun- damaged skin without skin tissue injury or patient discomfort. For the first time, we are now able to both slow down collagen breakdown while simultaneously building up new collagen in the skin.
These treatments are less expensive than other light based therapies. The main benefit is a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, freckles, brown spots, scars, and the amount of redness. In addition, the treatments are pain free, will not cause skin tissue damage, and there is no downtime at all. Dr. Stewart also uses the Gentle Waves after other lasers to help decrease the appearance of redness on the skin.
IRIDERM (DioLite Laser Treatment)
Iriderm is a quick and effective laser treatment for vascular lesions, pigmented lesions, and especially, broken capillaries. These veins are most noticeable at the base of the nose, and are referred to in non-medical terms as “martini lines”. The laser generates an intense beam of light that brings energy to a specific target site. The light is absorbed by the red blood cells. Pigment found in the skin causes decomposition of unwanted cells, resulting in an immediately noticeable difference in skin tone. Essentially, the healthy cells are left intact, and visible linear veins and capillaries disappear immediately during the treatment.
The Iriderm laser treatment is typically pain free and usually performed without anesthesia, taking only minutes to complete. This laser has a consistent outcome resulting in minimal to no discoloration, swelling, or other similar complications. As with all laser treatments, patients should avoid the sun and hot weather during the healing process. For many doctors this is the most effective laser in the office.

Thermage® is a non-surgical skin tightening system that uses thermal technology. Adrienne E. Stewart, M.D. was one of the first dermatologists in Denver to adopt this system because of its inherent advantages of speed, efficiency, and lower amounts of pain for the patient.
Dr. Stewart’s office is equipped with the latest Thermage® system called "ThermaCool." This system offers less painful treatment with minimal downtime so that the patient can resume normal activity almost immediately after the treatment.
ThermaCool System is a very safe procedure because it is non-invasive. It effectively helps to make the skin smoother, tighter and improves the contours to provide a naturally younger looking appearance to the patient.
Thermage is sometimes referred to as ThermaLift. This is an excellent non-invasive alternative for patients who are not prepared to undergo facelift surgery. ThermaLift’s advanced treatment tip heats and cools the skin at the same time.
ThermaLift emits radio frequency energy to heat the collagen in the deeper skin layers, while protecting the top layers with a cooling spray. This entire procedure helps to tighten the deep structures of the skin immediately. Over a period of time, the new collagen grows to further tighten the skin and produce a more youthful appearance. The results can last for many years depending on the condition of your skin and the natural process of aging. Your skin may continue to tighten and improve for up to six months following the procedure.
