Do you find yourself wishing that you had some of the volume in your face that you did ten years ago? It is common for the cheeks, lips, temples, and other areas of the face to lose volume as your skin ages. With dermal fillers, you can restore some of this lost volume. At Aesthetic Surgery and Dermatology of Cherry Creek, we offer many different options for our patients who are looking for ways to smooth, lift, and fill their skin.
Different Types and Brands of Dermal Fillers
There are many different types of dermal fillers as well as different brands to choose from. Because each dermal filler has its own unique characteristics, each can be used to help treat different concerns.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are made from synthetic materials that are formulated to behave identically to the naturally occurring form. They provide additional volume until it is absorbed by your body.
Other fillers can be made from calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) or poly-L-lactic acid which focus on stimulating collagen production rather than simply filling the area. With the right doctor, hyaluronic acid, CaHA, and poly-L-lactic acid fillers can all be used to successfully treat wrinkles, and sometimes they can be used together to achieve your desired look.
A detailed conversation with you about your goals can help us to narrow down the right treatment and products. During your consultation, we may discuss one of the following treatments:
Juvéderm®
JUVÉDERM is a gel hyaluronic acid filler made by Allergan Aesthetics that can be used to treat facial wrinkles and loss of volume in many different areas of the face. JUVÉDERM has a smooth consistency which can make it a great option for individuals who want to add volume while retaining a very natural look and feel.
JUVÉDERM has a whole line of products that can be used for different aesthetic goals. Thinner products can be used to fill in fine lines while products with more body can be used to fill and lift the cheeks or temples.
Restylane®
Restylane is another line of HA dermal fillers. As a more granular product, it can be a better product for patients who are looking for more structure. When you have an experienced injector, Restylane can be molded and shaped to create beautiful and well-balanced features.
Restylane can be used to lift cheeks, fill in nasolabial folds, plump lips, reduce marionette lines, and fill in hands that have lost volume. With the right touch, Restylane can achieve very natural-looking results.
Radiesse®
Radiesse is a filler that is made from CaHA, a mineral found naturally in the body, plus a gel carrier. When injected, the gel carrier immediately fills the area, reducing the appearance of wrinkles right away. Meanwhile, spheres of CaHA begin to work underneath your skin to help provide more long-term effects. These spheres can help build a scaffolding for the skin and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. Eventually, your body will absorb the CaHA microspheres. Results from this treatment can last for a year or even more in certain patients.
Sculptra®
Sculptra is designed to support your body’s natural ability to renew and heal. Rather than focusing on filling existing wrinkles in the face, Sculptra aims to restore volume through the stimulation of collagen production.
Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid which is a biocompatible material that, when injected, can cause your body to recruit fibroblasts to the area. Fibroblasts are responsible for producing the skin’s framework and helps to heal wounds. It is essential for the collagen and elastin fibers that support the skin in the dermal layer.
One of our favorite areas to treat with Sculptra is the temples. Loss of volume in the temples can cause the face to look more sallow, but our patients don’t always think to ask for treatment in this area. We specialize in looking at your facial structure and recommending the treatments that will work best to restore youthfulness to your face.
Treatment Areas for Dermal Fillers Cheek Fillers
The fat pads that are located in the subdermal layer are responsible for making your face look full and youthful. Unfortunately, over time these fat pads can shrink, causing the skin of the face to sit closer to the bones and making wrinkles and folds more prominent. Cheek fillers are used to fill these areas again and lift the skin.
Restylane Lyft and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC are both great products that can be used to fill in this loss of volume. When using these products, we carefully shape the cheek to add subtle lift and volume to the area without making you look overdone. Radiesse and Sculptra can also be a good option if you want to encourage long-term benefits through collagen production.
For most people, the key to a good lip filler is creating more volume and a pleasing shape without overfilling the lips or making them look and feel unnatural. We can use lip filler to restore volume to lips, smooth out lines and wrinkles around the mouth, and even out the shape of the lips. Products that we often use for the lips are JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC, JUVÉDERM ULTRA XC, Restylane Silk, and Restylane Kysse™.
How Long Do Lip Fillers Last?
Both JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC and JUVÉDERM ULTRA XC can last for up to one year, although every patient is different. The results of Restylane Silk and Restylane Kysse can differ from person to person, too. Most people can expect to see results for at least 6 months after treatment.
